One Straw Ranch is owned and operated by Charlotte and Martin Frederickson with farmhands Eli (4) and Vera (2). It is our mission to provide you with delicious, ethically raised food that regenerates the health of our environment and our communities.
Our farm is located on the verdant Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, where the towering Olympic Mountains meet the bountiful waters of Puget Sound. We are blessed with abundant clean air, clean water, and fertile soils, and we are honored to steward these resources for the generations to come while producing wholesome food for you and your family.
Everything we do at One Straw Ranch is centered on health – health of the land, health of the animals, and ultimately the health of you, our customer. By following the patterns of nature rather than working against them we believe we can heal our environment, strengthen our communities, and produce food that creates vibrant health for us all.
A Healthy Environment
Contrary to the commonly promoted opinion that eating meat is detrimental to the health of our planet, animal-based agriculture is crucial to restoring balance to Earth's carbon cycle. While it is true that the industrial feedlot-based meat production system does little to improve our environment, studies show that intelligently managed pasture-based animal systems actually remove more greenhouse gases than they produce by storing carbon in the soil.
All of our livestock spend as much of the year out on pasture as possible. In contrast with industrial confinement operations that supply much of the food you find in the grocery store, our animals are free to express their natural instincts – cattle and sheep graze lush pastures, pigs root in the soil, chickens scratch in search of insects. This is what they were designed to do, and not only does this make for happier, healthier animals and ultimately healthier and more flavorful food for people, it allows them to be a part of a thriving ecosystem of ever-increasing fertility, diversity and environmental health.
Pasture-raised meat and eggs are some of the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat! They have been shown to be higher in many essential nutrients – Omega-3 fatty acids, Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), vitamins C, D, E, B-12, folic acid and beta-carotene to name a few. Additionally, since we don’t use them, you won’t find traces of hormones, sub-therapeutic medications, pesticides, or other contaminants.
